What can you tell us about your show?/ What is it about and where did the idea come from?
The show is a solo piece written and performed by myself (Jake) and directed by my wife, Hayley Moir, about exactly what it sounds like: being a good neighbor. The show tells the story of the time I tried to save a stray cat in the alleyway outside my apartment building, and everything that came after (blood, tears, trauma). It explores friendship, bullying, and the ways in which we try to get others to like us. Throughout the piece, I take time away from the story to help audience members in real-time with their problems: if they need help, they’re going to get it.
How would you sell it to audiences in one paragraph?
You know how you sometimes sit with friends around a living room with a cocktail and talk about all the things you need help with? This show is that. The show is about a bunch of different themes, but explores other ideas as well, such as planning a wedding, the concept of the clothing chair, the way we interact with strangers, whether getting punched is really all that bad, and so much more!
Do you enjoy participating in the Fringe, and do you have any moments you particularly remember?
We’ve never been! So this is very exciting for both of us! Plenty of memories to come!
What are you looking forward to the most in Edinburgh?
Seeing so many amazing, innovative, and inspirational new works, and supporting friends we’ve made throughout this process. Plus, a pint or two at some of the best pubs.
