Bianca spills the tea …
What inspired the creation of Bianca’s Gay Agenda, and how did you get together with your special guests?
For my Lambeth Fringe debut, I wanted to collaborate with fellow comedians on the London circuit.
When I sat down to pick who were my favourites it just turned out that they were all gay (seems I just love all things camp)!
I met Robbie Gould (Barb Barrick) when I started my journey into stand up comedy doing the Bill Murray comedy course.
I then met Lucy Jenner when I started gigging around London and Jordan Bonner at my first gong show. All three have incredible stage presence and bring the sass!
Why should audiences come along to the show, and what might they expect?
This gig will be a supportive and open space for queers to let their freak flag fly!
Myself and the other three comedians have prepared our own individual sets (different items on the agenda).
My style of comedy is storytelling about my culturally confusing upbringing being mixed race, growing up in a Muslim country but going to Catholic school.
Fast forward to leaving the desert and my life in the UK, you’ll hear more about my life as a financial journalist, my dyslexic dad, dating in London and finally finding love!
Barb Barrick is a raunchy comedian with a passion for making love in graveyards. She’s like a bag of Tesco Babyleaf Salad – always washed and ready to eat!
Jordan Bonner BA PGCE ADHD IBS LGBTQIA+. Slaying comedy, education and his meds, one bathroom break at a time.
Lucy Jenner will be serving up classic storytelling with a sprinkling of dumb dad jokes any lesbian would be proud of. She doesn’t take herself too seriously and neither should you.
I was brainstorming ideas for a gay party and thought of the song Let’s have a Kiki by the Scissor Sisters.
The term Kiki started in ballroom culture and is loosely defined as a gathering of friends for the purpose of gossiping and chit-chat.
So I thought it would be cool to incorporate gossip as part of the agenda. A big part of the show will therefore invite audience members to bring hot gossip for us to dissect live on stage!
Think gay agony aunt giving terrible advice!
Do you find fringe festivals inspiring?
I am a huge fan of Edinburgh Fringe. It’s what inspired me to really go for stand up comedy.
Living in London we get all these big productions advertised but real art is born out of the freedom of not having to appeal to the masses.
There is an audience for everyone and I also think representation is really important.
Even today the majority of the successful comedians are white straight men.
Having women, different races and sexual orientations on stage gives a voice to the fringes of society.
What’s next for the show?
I’d love to take the show to the Edinburgh Fringe!
Lambeth is a great place to debut the show given it’s in my hood (being a Crystal Palace resident) and Clapham (where the Bread and Roses is located) is a great hub for the gays!
Ahead of the fringe, we individually will continue to gig across London but if you can’t get enough of Bianca’s Gay Agenda we’d love to continue it!
