A blend of hypnotic dance and perfect synchronisation, Murmuration Level 2 fuses hip-hop, martial arts, contemporary dance, ballet and drawing.
As part of a special afternoon event at Institute Francais, I was able to interview assistant choreographer Alizé Hernandez.
Could you say something about your role on Murmuration Level 2?
I’m the assistant choreographer on the show.
I was a dancer on the first version of the show, and for the last year, I’ve been assisting Sadeck.
So I’m with the dancers during rehearsals, during the show, during the tour, wherever they need me.
What was the inspiration behind the show?
The idea is to talk about nature, to express it through dance. Sharing connections, geometry, of birds and their flock when they all move together.
There are a lot of square, triangle forms in nature. So the idea is to play with this geometry, explore the connection between dancers.
You watch as a big group shares the energy, together.
Can you say something about the music?
The music is from TRex, credited as Sadeck’s ‘little brother’.
It’s also about nature, with a lot of sound, a lot of noise. Bird song, rain, sounds you find outdoors.
The music is really integral with the choreography. It’s very important for both Sadeck and his brother.

[We saw a small extract from Murmuration Level 2]. What is the full show like?
The full show is 75 minutes. Quite a long show. Lots of group pieces, the wall of people, the geometry, but also duets, trios, etc.
We also use accessories, colours. Making shapes that link together using legs as well as arms.
A lot of games with the lights, and wonderful music.
Sadeck put a lot of ideas in the show. It’s really beautiful to see.
Is it your first time in London as a company?
A few of the dancers came in June for a private project, not connected to Murmuration.
It’s the first time here for the whole team, and the first time we have ever done two weeks in the same place.
How has it been working at the Peacock?
It’s a really beautiful theatre. We are very lucky. Every dancer was like ‘oh my God, it’s so beautiful’. And to be in the same place for two weeks is wonderful.
Usually we are in one city then the day after, somewhere else. It’s so good to be in the same city to enjoy the mood, the energy of the country and the city.
And this theatre is very good. The team is very good. So thank you so much, London!
