English theatre companies Pretty Gross Productions and Jamais Vu Productions Ltd bring their show 113 to the Edinburgh Fringe this summer.
“No name. No memory. No identity. Where to begin? 49 has been in the room for as long as they can remember. 64 is in the room next door. They can never see each other, but the two can talk, and they can pass notes. Who are they? Where are they? And why are they being watched by someone called J. Doe? 113 is a thriller that asks if memory is what makes our identity, and if we were able to see ourselves objectively, could we change?”

What can you tell us about your show? What is it about and where did the idea come from?
113 is an experimental thriller by Ethan H.M.M. It was written as an experiment in empathy and form. No Name. No memory. No Identity. Where to begin? 49 and 64 are in the room. They cannot see each other, but they can talk and pass notes. All they have is questions. Who are they? Where are they? What is going on? And why? And who is J Doe? And why are they watching them?
After an acclaimed run at the 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe and a second year of touring the UK, 113 returns for an extended run at this year’s festival. It was a real challenge, from conception to writing to staging, but Ethan and the whole team couldn’t be happier with the journey that this play has taken them on.

Do you enjoy participating in the Fringe? And do you have any moments you particularly remember?
The mad rush is something the whole team enjoys. There’s just an energy at the Fringe that is infectious. Performing to sold-out audiences is always memorable, but finding out that people from across the globe actively want to come and see the work that you put on is something from last year that the whole team cherish.
What are you looking forward to the most in Edinburgh?
Finding something you have never seen before, something you couldn’t have planned on seeing, something that really grabs you and pulls you in. There’s one for everyone in Edinburgh.
What’s next for the show?
There is a big announcement coming that we can’t reveal right at this very second but is indeed very exciting, and we can’t wait to
share…when we’re allowed to, of course.
