Magician Jack Kenyon is known for “his mastery of mystery and illusion”. Now, he brings his show Table for Two to the Edinburgh Fringe next month.

What can you tell us about your show? What is it about and where did the idea come from?
Table for Two is a magic show with a narrative, a story even; can a magician get a second date? We have seen lots of magic shows over the years, and our favourite ones are those with a story. We wanted this show to have a story but also borrow from real-life situations that people experience and are interested in. A first date is an exciting but also nerve-wracking experience, so we thought, why not have that as the setting and premise for the show.
How would you sell it to audiences in one paragraph?
If you’re looking for something a bit different, Table for Two is the show for you. A magician goes on a date with a member of the audience! What sounds like something that would be a scary and potentially embarrassing experience for that audience member, they quickly find out they’ve got the best seat in the house, and along with the audience, they experience some incredible magic. With each routine more impossible than the last, the show builds towards its grand finale, whose success rests in the hands of the audience.
Do you enjoy participating in the Fringe? And do you have any moments you particularly remember?
This is our debut Fringe performance. As an unknown artist, we know it’s going to be difficult; a lot of blood, sweat, and magic tricks to get the show seen, but we’re looking forward to creating lots of memories and hopefully memories for people coming to our show. Everyone who comes to our show receives a souvenir, so hopefully Table for Two will be in people’s minds long after the Fringe has finished.
What are you looking forward to the most in Edinburgh?
The atmosphere and buzz that comes along with the Fringe festival! We’ve got some unique tricks I’ll be performing whilst flyering, so we can’t wait to meet lots of people down the Royal Mile! We hope this will give us a chance to see a lot of the city as well. We’re definitely visiting the castle, and we’re eyeing up a ghost tour we want to go on.
What’s next for the show?
Magic shows can change so much depending on the audience on the day, so we’re really excited to develop and refine the show throughout August. We have the goal of crafting a polished 45-minute act ready to take on cruises. From there, we’d love to expand the show further – and in an ideal world, take it on tour!
