A look back at LouReviews over the years!

We’ve been going since 2011 as a hobby site, and since 2019 as a proper professional home for reviews.

Here are a few samples of what I covered over the years:

2011

Back in August 2011, I was at the Barbican Theatre to see Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific, starring Samantha Womack and Paulo Szot. Review.

2012

In April 2012, it was a trip to the Royal Festival Hall to see the Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by John Wilson, with a concert version of Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Yeoman of the Guard. Review.

2013

It was a trip to the National Film Theatre at BFI Southbank in May 2013, to celebrate the career of a 60s icon, Terence Stamp in Conversation. Review.

2014

Legendary Irish folk singer-songwriter Christy Moore was in concert at the Royal Festival Hall. Review.

2015

In May 2015, the Royal Shakespeare Company brought their version of Death of a Salesman to the West End, with Antony Sher as Willy Loman and Harriet Walter as his wife, reuniting after playing in the Scottish play in 1999. Review.

2016

Back to the ballet in June 2016 – I used to be a regular at Northern Ballet, then Northern Ballet Theatre, in the 1990s. Their Jane Eyre stopped off at Richmond Theatre. Review.

2017

Edward Albee’s curio, The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? came to the Theatre Royal Haymarket starring Damien Lewis and Sophie Okonedo. Review.

2018

Over at the Wyndham’s Theatre, Alfred Molina and Alfred Enoch starred in Red, a play by John Logan about the artist Mark Rothko. This play was thankfully filmed for public release and can be seen currently on National Theatre at Home. Review.

2019

At Jermyn Street Theatre, Pictures of Dorian Gray was presented in four different casting configurations. I saw Helen Reuben as a female Dorian in show C. Review.

2020

As we know, this was pandemic year when live theatre was shuttered and ghost lights were left burning. My first review of a single digital show was for Waiting for Hamlet, a show which is now touring in venues. It was a 45-minute audio play back in 2020. Review.

2021

Digital theatre was still making inroads in 2021, and I was able to sample the Chicago Shakespeare Theater’s work in We Are Out There. Review.

2022

Children’s shows have always been included on the site, and Tiddler & Other Tales, from the book by Julia Donaldson, played at the Cadogan Hall. Review.

2023

At Soho Theatre’s Upstairs space, Dismissed was set in a failing school after a scene of violence, Review.

2024

In May 2024, Fabulous Creatures brightened up the Arcola Theatre with killers from The Odyssey turned cabaret act. Review.

2025

I visited The Glitch to catch Tana Sirois in her solo show, Un-Tethered. Review.

Here’s to another fourteen years exploring the best of the capital’s shows and venues!
