Over at Edinburgh Fringe’s Free Fringe, Burt Williamson brings us 104kg of Pure Banter.
“His third hour of stand-up comedy promises to be his best yet. A powerful show that embraces a heavy topic: himself.
Mixing his trademark aplomb with goofy punchlines and densely worded stand-up, this is a brilliant hour from an original comedic voice making waves in the British stand-up comedy scene.’
Where: carte blanche! at PBH’s Free Fringe @ Voodoo Rooms
When: 2-24 Aug

You are at the Free Fringe with 104kg of Pure Banter this year. Why should people come along and see you?
People should come see me if they like stand-up comedy. They shouldn’t if they are into juggling. Not because I dislike juggling but because there is no juggling in the show whatsoever so if you arrive with those expectations you will undoubtedly be disappointed.
The Scotsman called you hilarious and adorable. How would you describe yourself?
I was a bit bamboozled when I got called adorable! Hilarious is obviously very welcome but I did wonder. Surely there is a size limit on adorability as a nearly 2m, 100kg man that I am probably over? I’d maybe go ‘hilarious and cute relative to his size.’
How did you make a start as a performer? Do Fringe festivals inspire you?
Definitely! I love the Fringe and it’s such an exciting place to be able to perform. I started out doing performance poetry back in the day, then I did improv and finally settled on stand-up when I figured out it was probably the one that suited me the most.
I guess it’s like dating lots, by the time I actually arrived at the art form I liked the most I knew it was the one. That being said I do miss poetry and improv but I’m aware admitting that has probably hurt my perilously low street cred.
What are you looking forward to the most in Edinburgh?
Is it twee to say doing my show? I know that’s terribly self-interested but performing to a room full of people that have chosen to see me is incredible. I just love doing comedy and live is the way to go.
Where can we see your work after Fringe?
You can see the show, like every show I do online on my YouTube (@burtcomedian) for free! I record each show in Bristol every year and give it a real send off before putting it online for posterity (and vanity).
