Charlie talks about the show that was a Best New Show nominee at Brighton Fringe.

Without saying too much, what can audiences expect from your show?
The show takes you on a hilarious, surprising odyssey inside one woman’s mind, as she competes in the decathlon that is modern love.
Underneath it all, there’s also an invitation to ask: just how much are we willing to put up with to avoid being alone?
Where did you get the idea to create this show and bring it to Edinburgh?
Me and my partner were messing around role playing as the most toxic couple
we could possibly imagine – and the show was born!
From there, I workshopped
the central character Amber at various scratch nights and works-in-progress
across France, Estonia, Brighton, Bristol, and London.
I brought other characters into the mix, until her story became the fully formed show I’m very excited to be presenting at the Fringe.
How did you get your start in comedy? Do you find Fringe festivals inspiring?
After training and developing my craft as an actor, I took myself off to the clown school Gaulier to get a new perspective.
I discovered how much I love to create weird, funny eccentric characters and make people laugh.
I decided to continue
my training at the Jacques Lecoq School, where I was able to find my voice as a
comedy performer and creator, and start performing in fringe and independent venues across Europe and the UK.
Fringe festivals are some of my favourite places. It demands so much love and
dedication to make a show without big financial backing.
To then put it out in the world, and get to hang out with fellow performers all going through the same
thing, is very special.
What are you looking forward to the most at Edinburgh?
I cannot wait to be surrounded by all the energy that the Fringe generates: all that creativity and hope and joy to play.
To be able to see such a huge variety of shows in one place is such a treat.
Where can we see your work after Fringe?
After the Fringe, I will be knocking about all over the
shop – but mainly performing in London and at the Tallinn Fringe in Estonia! You can also follow me @cmulliner on instagram for updates.
