Your show has improv tailored to each audience. Can you tell us any more about what to expect?
My show, Alex Prescot: Cosy, weaves together original and improvised songs, with the improv mostly inspired by chatting with the audience (don’t worry, I’m really nice and nobody in the audience can ever say anything “wrong”!)
Also, I don’t want to spoil the ending but let me just say it uses everything that’s come up in the show for one big finale – worth staying for I reckon!
Where do you get your inspiration from?
The show’s mainly inspired by double-acts I’ve been in, but also all of the double acts and partnerships that are around us and how some of those 2-part relationships don’t get as much attention as they should (e.g. me and my long term hairdresser!)
Also, when I’m gigging around the country, I chat a lot to audiences and often make up songs about them, so some of those interactions have inspired parts of the show too!
How did you get your start as a performer? Do Fringe festivals inspire you?
I started performing sketch comedy after meeting my double act partner Nick in an acting class. We did that for about a year but stopped because he moved to Australia (sad!), so I then started performing solo musical comedy and have been slowly working towards my debut hour ever since (which, weirdly, is about a double act partner leaving me for Australia!)
I’ve been going to Edinburgh Fringe in some capacity for the last 10 years and every time I see some of the most innovative, genre-pushing shows, which in turn inspires me to push boundaries with what I do as well.
What are you looking forward to the most in Edinburgh?
Seeing other people’s shows! Top of my list are Claire Parry, Su Mi, John Tothill, Jordan Gray and Cat Cohen, but there’s so many brilliant people bringing shows up this year (and lots of fun people debuting too!).
I also can’t wait for A Jaffa Cake Musical to come back to Pleasance this year, but then I am a bit biased…I’m in it!
Where can we see your work after Fringe?
If you follow me online @alexpcomedy I publicise all my future gigs there – I would love to tour this show after Edinburgh so watch this space!
