Welcome back to our series about cheap seat options available in the West End. This week, we are at one of the capital’s venues, which is Olivier-eligible but small in scale.
Show and venue
Eddie Izzard’s Hamlet at Riverside Studios 2 – £30 ticket
Seat
Booked T28 (back row)
Expectation
Although the theatre website did its best to sell me a seat further forward at £40, I felt the rake in this venue is good enough to be OK.
However, this venue can be reconfigured, so I wasn’t 100% sure.
Reality
For this show, the seat is an excellent option. Very good sightlines, even when Izzard ventures into the audience at times.
However, after I purchased my seat, additional rows were added at the front for the same price, which are closer to the stage but not raked.
Evidence
This was my view before the show started. When the seat in front was occupied, I had to lean forward at times, but there are much worse options in London theatres.

This is a production shot (by Amanda Searle) for comparison, obviously zoomed in somewhat:

Next time: For Black Boys … at Garrick Theatre.
