Fast Snail Productions bring their new show, Don’t know? Have a go! to Edinburgh Fringe this summer. I caught up with Robbie Hail, who plays Steve in the production, to find out more.

What can you tell us about your show? What is it about and where did the idea come from?
Don’t know? Have a go! It is about a man who winds up on his favourite quiz show with no idea how he got there, and he is forced to answer questions about himself. As the show begins to unravel, the audience will begin to piece together who John is and why he must make it to the end of the quiz show. The development of this show happened during my time on The Scottish Youth Theatre’s program Trajectories. I came with a song that I had written, looking to use its subject matter as the basis for a show, and out came Don’t know? Have a go!
How would you sell it to audiences in one paragraph?
If you are a fan of TV shows such as Inside No 9, Twin Peaks and Severance, then you will love this piece. This dark comedy mystery will have you guessing up until the last moments. It’s nostalgic, dark and heartfelt. The subjects that it highlights are universal, so I guarantee that everyone will get something out of this show.
Don’t know if it sounds good? C’mon HAVE A GO!
Do you enjoy participating in the Fringe? And do you have any moments you particularly remember?
This will be my 4th year participating in the Fringe. As a performer, it’s one of the most exciting times of the year. For 2 years in a row I performed in a show called Wish You Were Here by Michael Johnson, which was an absolute delight to be a part of and definitely my Fringe highlight so far!
What are you looking forward to the most in Edinburgh?
I will be performing in 2 shows back-to-back this year, so I’m very much looking forward to getting into the groove with both of them. I will also be excited for the Niddry Street Bar to appear again! It’s the best place to catch up with everyone after shows.
What’s next for the show?
I’m hoping I will be able to take the show to some other venues. Dundee & Prague Fringe are two I would love to get involved with. Ideally, I would love to get this show on at places such as Play, Pie & a Pint and Trav2, but we will see!
