Theatre Peckham is running an AR scavenger hunt this weekend – it is free to access via a smartphone and created in partnership with US-based immersive technology company Replayar.
Participants follow a live map and unlock content by visiting real-world locations across Peckham, Camberwell, and Southwark, which becomes a giant ‘playable district’ with 40 digital tokens to collect, celebrating 40 years of Theatre Peckham. The project is designed to encourage exploration, discovery, and community connection.
On 27 Jun, local resident and Theatre Peckham Patron Jenny Agutter OBE, and acclaimed director and fellow Theatre Peckham Patron Paulette Randall MBE, played the ReplayAR digital Scavenger Hunt with local children and young people from the Theatre Peckham Academy after one of the Theatre Peckham Academy showcases.

“For 40 years, Theatre Peckham has been shaped by the people, stories and places around it. This experience allows people to discover Theatre Peckham’s story by exploring the neighbourhood that helped create it.
In this adventure, there are no rewards for staying at home and no virtual shortcuts. To unlock the experience, participants must physically visit locations across Peckham, Camberwell and Southwark, encouraging real-world exploration, discovery and connection.
Players can only unlock the experience by showing up, exploring their community and sharing the journey with others.’
The initiative forms part of Theatre Peckham’s 40th anniversary celebrations under the theme Your Stage, Your Story, Your Theatre Peckham, and the adventure launches alongside Theatre Peckham’s 40th anniversary Academy Showcases, which celebrate the
creativity and achievements of local children and young people.
Participants will be able to access the experience by visiting Theatre Peckham on 3 and 4 July using the free to use Replayar app and then following the instructions provided on site.
