A regular fixture of the Binge Fringe Festival of Free Theatre, How to Live Like a Millionaire When You’re a Million Short is Marilyn Anderson’s show on the money-saving tips she assembled in her book (published 2017).
She’s a screenwriter, comedienne and bestselling author (Never Kiss A Frog, for one), and she has a great personality in front of an audience. Chatty, bright, approachable, Anderson is a relentless self-publicist and a very funny lady.
Full disclosure: I have not read the book How to Live Like a Millionaire When You’re a Million Short. I’m not that familiar with Anderson’s work in any medium.
So I’m coming to this with zero expectations of any kind. It’s being streamed worldwide as a theatre show, so I’m treating it as such. And it’s only an hour long.
Anderson’s first tip, unsurprisingly, is about entertainment and theatre. She talks about a membership scheme (that sounds like our seat-filling schemes, offering tickets for $5).
Dating, libraries, classes, medical procedures (on Craigslist?!) and more are discussed here. It’s all about finding alternatives to splashing the cash.
It’s an American-based show, with ideas working best Stateside, but you can pick up some ideas that also work this side of the pond. But, as a practical primer for non-Americans, its use is limited.
I’m leaving this one unrated.
How to Live Like a Millionaire When You’re a Million Short was streamed free round the world as part of the Binge Fringe Festival from Santa Monica Playhouse.
