We caught up with Everleigh to find out more!
Tell me a bit about your show. Where did the idea come from?
Codachrome: a live DJ set about the time I fell in love with a [trigger warning]” is a Party Play and what we mean by that is that its performance art that sits at the intersection of theatre and rave.
There are some chairs for those that want to sit, but the audience is encouraged to dance for 60 minute experience.
I wanted to make a show like this because I love London nightlife and going out and meeting people who do all sorts of different things and I’m noticing that theatre, especially experimental/fringe theatre, has become almost an echo chamber for theatre people performing for theatre people.
We really want to create something that blends the social aspect of going to see your favorite DJ with quality storytelling and narrative.
Why should audiences choose your show? How would you sell it in one sentence?
Codachrome is different. It’s immersive, it’s funny, it’s a true story, it’s heavy hitting… and the music slaps.
We sell it as “A super sweaty club night about a super complicated relationship”.
What does being part of the Voila Festival mean to you?
It’s so nice getting to perform amongst so many other international artists.
Both Maria and I are based in London, but we’re not from here and everyone in our Hoo Hah House squad are expats.
It’s super exciting to grow with our internationally minded community.
How did you make a start in the industry?
The drama school route. I went to Drama Centre and graduated in 2020 and Maria [Maria Cristina Petitti, co-founder of Hoo Hah House] went to East 15, but we’ve been friends since we met on a summer program at RADA in 2015.
We reunited and started Hoo Hah House Productions by taking our first show Brave Face to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2021 and we’ve been bulldozing ever since.
What’s next for the show?
I’m not sure we can say publically yet, but there will be more chances to see Codachrome in the new year coming.
