What’s your show about and what inspired it?

MadreMonte is a heartfelt exploration of grief, loss, and friendship with influences of magical realism, a genre originating from Latin America.

This play is also rooted in the powerful Colombian folklore of MadreMonte, a supernatural guardian of nature who punishes those who harm the environment, our story is set against a backdrop of ecological reckoning and emotional healing.

Since our company is predominantly Latino, we were inspired to showcase our indigenous culture and ancestors’ view of grief, love, and nature.

We also see this work as a love letter to our culture, and we think it’s imperative to tell this story as a theatre company.

Why should someone book to see your show and what might they expect?

We wanted to create a show that connects audiences with important Indigenous and spiritual values.

MadreMonte explores how we navigate grief and reconnect with each other and the world around us.

How did you make your start in the business?

HellBound Theatre is made up of Masters Graduates from East15 Acting School. We all had the same vision and wanted to create a company that tells stories that are very close to our hearts.

Do you have a favourite type of venue to work in?

We all performed at The Shakespeare’s Globe theatre as part of their higher education programme and we fell in love with the stage.

The environment and audience interaction is very special and unique. The natural acoustics of the venue are also incredible.

What’s next for the show?

We plan to remount MadreMonte, hopefully in the summer of 2026 or earlier. Stay tuned and keep a lookout on our instagram page, hell_boundtheatre! Thank you!
