Why Truman Capote? What’s his enduring appeal, and how do you present him in your show?

Well, he was such an odd person, physically and vocally, and I knew I could play him. His enduring appeal is his writing, of course.

I express what it was like to be him, and present all aspects of his life, from beginning to end, as an obsessive, compulsive, addictive soul.

Do you think we have lost the glamour and mystique of ‘celebrity’ these days?

The press wastes no time in calling someone a ‘celebrity’, simply by appearing on TV often enough; mainly, it’s people who love showing off on gaudy sets with flashing lights.

Switch it off and there’s nothing there. And anyone is a ‘star’ for having been in something.

How did you get your start in theatre? Do you find Fringe festivals inspiring?

As a youth, I was in the Cardiff Little Theatre. Later, I worked as a copywriter in advertising, also did voiceovers, and appeared on BBC radio shows.

Fringe festivals can be inspiring, but mainly hard work for everybody, getting audiences when there’s so much product.

What are you looking forward to the most in Edinburgh?

Getting good audiences.

Where will we see your work next?

Who knows?
