UPDATED SEPT 2021
About this blog
I started this blog in 2011 to report back on shows I have attended, mainly theatre but also some concerts and sporting events. It has now settled into the arts/culture space.
My reviews are for productions (both live, within London; and digital, internationally) where my opinion has been requested. As of 2021 I no longer review productions I pay to attend, although I still comment on those vua social media.
LouReviews achieved an average of 1,987 views per month during 2020, despite the pandemic closing the doors of live theatre venues for most of that year. In 2021 average views are at over 3,000 per month.
I work regularly with a number of major PR companies, as well as with a variety of fringe companies. A main focus of the blog is covering fringe festivals but I will cover any show, big or small. My only criteria is that I can get to a live show within a reasonable timeframe.
I tend to concentrate on fringe, female-led, queer, or experiemental theatre but also enjoy classics, new writing of all kinds, and musicals. I tend to avoid live immersive shows and currently do not cover live shows outside London.
I currently do not star rate shows unless requested to; I feel that it is not a helpful metric when comparing vastly different types of show. This is however constantly under review and may change if I feel it is necessary.
On a professional level I worked for twenty-five years as a librarian, and also am a published writer – academic articles, poetry, popular culture – and spent five years editing a journal for a major publisher. If you would like to know more, see my LinkedIn profile.
As of 2019 writing and editing became my main (unpaid) interest, and I am very keen to engage with productions, outlets, and arts organisations to expand my coverage and my reviews.
